Excessive current could overheat the lighting components and potentially lead to smoke, smouldering or fire. The issue was not a defect in the vehicle’s high-voltage electric drivetrain. It involved exterior lighting and the software rules that controlled the electronic fuse.
Lucid released software version 2.10.0 in July 2026. The update reduced the amperage supplied to the affected circuits and stopped repeatedly re-energising a light after detecting a fault, as reported by Electrek. By 20 August, 20,719 affected vehicles had already received the update, while 6,466 still required it.
The company identified three fire events apparently linked to the issue over three years, with the last reported in March 2025. It also identified four smoke events during the previous year and 33 warranty reports possibly connected to wiring harness damage, according to the same Electrek report.
The practical lesson is simple: a connected device is never completely “finished” when it leaves the factory. Its performance can depend on the software version, configuration and update status.
